LG washer and dryer repair, Springfield MO
LG builds most of its washers around a direct drive motor bolted straight to the back of the drum, with no belt and no transmission in between. That single design choice explains most of what goes wrong: the motor itself rarely fails, and the bearing behind it carries everything.
What actually fails on a LG
Three faults that come up far more often than the rest on this platform.
Tub bearings on front loaders
The rumble that rises with the spin and does not go away. Direct drive hangs the motor off the rear of the outer tub, so the bearing behind it takes the whole load. On a sealed outer tub this is the one LG repair worth thinking hard about, because the tub comes as an assembly rather than a bearing.
Drain pump and the coin trap
The most common LG call by a distance and usually among the cheapest. The filter sits behind the panel at the bottom front, and what comes out of it is often the entire fault.
Door lock
An LG that fills and then stops dead with nothing obviously wrong is frequently the door lock rather than the control board. Worth checking before anyone talks about electronics.
LG error codes, and what they do not tell you
A code narrows the area. It does not name the part, and anyone quoting a repair off a code alone is guessing.
Not filling. Start at the taps and the inlet screens rather than the valve.
Not draining. Usually the pump filter, and usually something in it.
Load out of balance. Often the suspension rather than the laundry.
Locked motor. On direct drive this points at the rotor, the hall sensor or a drum that will not turn.
Door not locking.
Thermistor, the temperature sensor.
LG dryers
LG dryers split into vented machines and condenser or heat pump machines, and they fail differently. Vented ones fail like any other: element, thermal fuse, thermistor. Condenser and heat pump models add a condenser that packs with lint, which presents as a machine that has stopped drying when what it needs is cleaning rather than parts.
